Energy Star 2025 Facility Flag

We all know stars shine up in the sky and out in Hollywood. But did you know they also shine bright right here at Simplot? Two of our Company’s plants have earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2025 ENERGY STAR certification.

Our Company’s Helm and Rock Springs plants received the prestigious designation, which recognizes them as verified for energy performance in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide. Helm produces nitric acid and downstream nitrate and phosphate liquid fertilizers. Rock Springs produces ammonia, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and various granulated fertilizers necessary to ensure healthy crops to help feed the world. Both plants have been previously recognized by ENERGY STAR.

“Respect for Resources is a Simplot Core Value in name and in deed,” said Helm-based Production Area Manager David Albright. “Doing what it takes to earn ENERGY STAR reflects that commitment and serves our Company’s 4Sight 2030 Energy goal and overall Company-wide sustainability initiatives.” Simplot’s 4Sight 2030 Goals are specific, measurable, and aim for major reductions in energy, water, carbon and waste emissions by 2030.

Rock Springs Senior Engineering Manager Ben Brewster emphasized the connection between ENERGY STAR and financial success. “ENERGY STAR certification emphasizes the value of energy efficiency to a company’s bottom line. It shows that it’s not an either/or proposition to make money and consider the environment and the health of the planet. Ongoing sustainability work at our plants reaffirms Simplot’s commitment to responsible fertilizer production and the bottom line.”

ENERGY STAR certified plants use less energy than similar plants, resulting in fewer emissions. They are also less expensive to operate than their peers on an energy basis. Additionally, they meet strict requirements regarding environmental compliance at the time of the certification.

Industrial plants like Simplot’s earn ENERGY STAR by providing the EPA key plant operating and annual energy data. We enter this information into industry-specific energy management tools called ENERGY STAR Energy Performance Indicators, which benchmark a plant’s energy performance against the industry.

Congratulations to the teams at Helm and Rock Springs on your accomplishments and this ENERGY STAR recognition! Your hard work demonstrates how saving energy and protecting the environment supports Simplot’s ability to grow, to serve our customers, and to continue feeding the world sustainably.
